This DIY Glenda the Good Witch Costume is super adorable and fairly easy to make. The base of the costume is made with a ballet leotard and tights. I tried to use materials that we had at home for the costumes i.e. leotard and tights. Then made the skirt and added a few key items to give the costume more character.
For a trunk or treating event at school, Cakey decided to be Glenda the Good Witch. While we had most of the pieces on hand to make the costume I did have to buy tulle to make her skirt.
DIY Glenda the Good Witch Costume
This costume is a bit more time consuming than my others. But it is easy to do while watching tv or listening to something. I like to do it in stages. Cut everything out on one day then assemble on a different day.

Base of the costume:
- Long sleeved pink ballet leotard
- Pink tights
Supplies:
- 1 inch wide elastic chord (Jo-Ann’s)
- 2 rolls of sparkle pink tulle 6 inch x 10 yards (Michael’s)
- 1 roll of pink tulle 6 inch x 25 yards (Michael’s)
- 1 roll of pink tulle with gold stars 2 inch x 25 yards (Etsy)
- Scissors
- Star hole punch
- Gold glitter crowns (found in party section of Target) or gold glitter paper
- Stapler
- Pink ribbon
- Gold and sliver organza wire butterflies (found in the flower section)
- Measuring tape
- Needle and thread or fabric glue
- Scrape cardeboard
- Rotary cutter
- Masking tape
To make the top:
- Standing like a T with arms out, measure from wrist to wrist across the back.
- Next take the arm measurement plus 6 inches and measure that on the pink tulle and cut it.
- Repeat on the pink with gold stars tulle.
- Line the two pieces of tulle up.
- Next take the ends of the tulle and attach on set to the wrist of the leotard on what will be the top of the wrist.
- If your want to easily take the costume apart after you are done use a staple if not a dot of fabric glue.
- Loosely bring the pieces of tulle up to the shoulder of the leotard. Next attach the tulle layers to the shoulder.
- Then loosely bring the tulle to the collar of the leotard and attach there. Make sure to puff the tulle up between the shoulder and collar before attaching.
- Bring the tulle behind the leotard and attach to the collar on the other side.
- Next loosely bring the pieces of tulle down to the shoulder and attach. Make sure to puff the tulle up between the shoulder and collar before attaching.
- Finally bring the tulle loosely down to the wrist and attach.
- Now use the star hole punch to punch out a dozen or so stars out of the gold glitter card stock.
- Then attach a dozen stars across the neckline of the leotard. Attach a couple stars on the tulle on the sleeves. Save any extra.
- Finally attach a couple of butterflies to the leotard and tulle sleeves.

To make the skirt:
- Measure the waist using a measuring tape.
- Measure from the waist to the ankle.
- Add one inch to the waist measurement and measure the elastic cord at that length.
- Overlap the ends of the elastic by half an inch.
- Sew together using the needle and thread. Or glue together with fabric glue.
- Measure the cardboard and cut it at the length of the waist to ankle measurement.
- Starting with the pink tulle, secure the end of the tulle to the middle of the cardboard using masking tape.
- Then wrap the tulle completely around the length of the cardboard.
- Continue wrapping the tulle around the cardboard until you have finished the entire roll.
- Use the rotary cutter to cut the tulle where the masking tape is.
- Next remove all layer of tulle.
- Then repeat steps 7-11 with the sparkle pink tulle rolls.
- Finally repeat steps 7-11 with the pink with gold stars tulle roll.
- Slide your elastic up your leg and above your knee.
- Take one strip of pink and one strip of sparkle pink and fold them in half.
- Secure the tulle to the elastic by making slipknots. Slide the loop that you made when folding the tulle together under the elastic on your leg. Next use your fingers to open the loop up a bit and pull the tulle threw. Pull tight to secure.

- Continue alternating between the tulle colors until you have finished all the tulle.
- Now use the star hole punch to punch out a dozen or so stars out of the gold glitter card stock.
- Then attach stars randomly across the tulle of the skirt. Save any extras.
- Finally attach a couple of butterflies to the skirt.

To make the crown and necklace:
- Measure around the neck.
- Cut a ribbon to fit in a loose choker style.
- Tie one end of the ribbon to a big gold butterfly on the underside.
- Leave the other end loose. But make sure you can tie it while the necklace is on.
- Alternatively you can attach a simple hook and eye to make it easier.
- Glenda has a tall crown, so staple two crowns together if using pre-made ones. If not measure and cut out a tall crown on gold glitter card stock.
- Attach the leftover stars to the points on the crown.
- Finally, attach a butterfly to the front of the crown.
Cakey loved how her costume turned out! And I did too!
