Below you will find commonly asked freezer cooking questions and answers. The answers our my own personal opinions and responses. Please feel free to ask any additional questions you may have or add to my answers.
What is freezer cooking?
The way I define freezer cooking is like this, it is cooking that you do ahead of time to save time later. Freezer cooking also saves you money! I have virtually no leftovers to throw away!
Is there an art form to freezer cooking?
I’m sure there is but I don’t know one. I believe in the learn as you go hands on method. Anyone can freezer cook. You just have to do what works for you and your family.
Do you need a deep freezer to freezer cook?
No you do not. I do have one and I use it a lot but you can (I did) freezer cook in the over the refrigerator freezer. Before we bought our deep freezer I was freezer cooking and storing it in our over the refrigerator freezer.
Is freezer cooking worth it?
Absolutely! On days when life is crazy (which is practically everyday) it is so nice not to have to worry about dinner. If I forget to take something out I just pull out one of my quick defrosting meals and cook it. No one has to know I forgot dinner!
Do you have to have a lot of casserole dishes or pans?
No you don’t. I use a combination of dishes and zip top bags. Use whatever works for you and your space.
Do you only eat casseroles?
No there are lots of meals you can freezer cook. I have a few casseroles that I freezer cook because we love them. I also make a variety of burritos, pockets, muffins, cookies, waffles and many other foods.
