This year during our homeschool preschool and pre-kindergarten, I thought I would try out some sensory bins. I make no guarantees that I will do one each week or that I will do them all year for two reasons. One I do not know if the girls will like them. Two I do not know if I will like doing them. 🙂

During our eighth week, we worked on learning about the letter “H.” To find items for our Letter H Sensory Bin I raided the girls’ toys, my craft supplies, and our school supplies.

Letter H Sensory Bin was a lot of fun and luckily not very messy. The girls did get some hay on the floor but not much. 🙂

  • Plastic hippopotamus

  • Plastic hamster
  • Foam hearts (Valentine’s Day decorations)

  • Hexagons (assorted buttons shapes from Hobby Lobby)
  • Plastic harp seal
  • Fine motor tool set

Directions:
  1. Pour enough hay to cover the bottom.
  2. Add in the plastic toys, letters and shapes.
  3. Give plastic fine motor tool set to your child to use while exploring the bin.

The girls loved exploring their Letter H Sensory Bin. They used their hands to dig around and find the toys, the fine motor tool set to scoop, grab, and pinch up each item. They also counted the different kinds of items, counted the total number of items in the bin, and tried stacking the items. Both of the girls were really obsessed with playing with the helicopters.

The first time the girls started exploring their letter “H” sensory bin, I read At the Old Haunted House from our Tot School Letter H Books list. During the rest of the week, we listen to music genres or instruments that begin with the letter “H”.

Be sure to stop by my Homeschool Sensory Exploration page where I link all of our sensory bins. And if you are looking for more homeschool activities, make sure you check out my Homeschool page which contains links to our book lists, crafts, and math & science.

Have you ever tried a letter H themed sensory bins with your kids?

Have a great day!
