Letter N Sensory Bin

Spread the love

This year during our homeschool preschool and pre-kindergarten, I thought I would try out some sensory bins. I make no guarantees that I will do one each week or that I will do them all year for two reasons. One I do not know if the girls will like them. Two I do not know if I will like doing them. 🙂

During our fourteenth week, we worked on learning about the letter “N.” To find items for our Letter N Sensory Bin I raided the girls’ toys, my craft supplies, the pantry, and our school supplies.

Letter N Sensory Bin was a lot of fun and kinda messy but edible. 🙂 I set it up on the table with a tablecloth on it in order to make it easier to clean. I used rice noodles that we ended up not liking when they were made.

Supplies needed:
  • Plastic bin with lid
  • 12-24 oz of cooked noodles
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Plastic number nines
  • Plastic newt
  • Mixed Nuts
  • Plastic letter N’s capital and lowercase
  • Plastic narwhal
  • Real or plastic nectarines
  • Real or plastic nickels
  • Fine motor tool set

Directions:
  1. Pour cooked noodles into bin.
  2. Sprinkle with ground nutmeg.
  3. Add in the plastic toys, letters, and food.
  4. Give plastic fine motor tool set to your child to use while exploring the bin.

The girls loved exploring their Letter N Sensory Bin. They used their hands to dig around and find the toys, the fine motor tool set to scoop, grab, and pinch up each item. They also counted the different kinds of items, counted the total number of items in the bin, and tried stacking the items. Oh! And they got to try a nectarine for the first time, too.

The first time the girls started exploring their letter “N” sensory bin, I read Noisy Nora from our Tot School Letter N Books list. During the rest of the week, we listen to music genres or instruments that begin with the letter “N”.

Be sure to stop by my Homeschool Sensory Exploration page where I link all of our sensory bins. And if you are looking for more homeschool activities, make sure you check out my Homeschool page which contains links to our book lists, crafts, and math & science.

Have you ever tried a letter N themed sensory bins with your kids?

Have a great day!

Brandi
