I like to save time and effort in the kitchen so I try to multitask as much as possible. That doesn’t always work out too well for me but this multitasking tip always works for me.
Pretty handy steam basket
I have one of those awesome steam baskets that you set inside a pot to steam your veggies and I use it pretty often. But, I’m being totally honest here, most of the time I do not want to get another pot out just to steam some veggies in it. Yes, I know that sounds pretty lazy but oh well! If I get another pot out then I feel like I have to wash it and I really don’t want to add to the pile of dishes.
Which is why I have been known to microwave my veggies in a pinch. However, I do not prefer this method. I think the veggies taste better steamed rather than nuked.
My absolute favorite way to steam veggies!
My favorite way to steam veggies is by putting them in my metal colander and placing it on top of the pot of rice or pasta that I’m boiling. This saves me time, a dirty dish, and my veggies get steamed! Awesome! I know!
When I need to stir the pot I remove the colander, stir the rice or pasta, and shake-flip-stir the veggies in the colander before placing it back on top. This allows for a more even steaming of the veggies. Once the veggies are done, I dump them in a bowl, and use the colander to drain the rice or pasta when it’s done! Easy peasy!
