Friends, I am so excited to bring to you another guest post from Patricia Cornwell. A few weeks ago Patricia shared some tips for choosing safe cleaning products, and today she is going to share some tips on the right way to store cleaning supplies! Enjoy!
People usually use a number of cleaning products and tools to keep their places clean and organised. Cleaning kits are stored under the kitchen sink or in a drawer. Most of us think that keeping these items locked and out of sight is the only thing we should do with regard to proper storage. But this is not true. Storing your cleaning supplies the right way can prolong their life and ensure safety and health in the house. What should you know about storing cleaning supplies? Here are several things to consider.
Keep Your Supplies in a Dry and Cool Place
The first thing that you should know when storing cleaning supplies is that they ought to be kept away from humid and hot places, CallCleaners SW20 say. You need to make sure that the storage area is cool and dry. Else, the supplies may wear out too soon or they may lose their qualities.
Furthermore, the place where you store your cleaning kit should be cleaned frequently as well. Keep it free from dust and dirt to ensure that your microfiber cloths, towels, dustpans and other tools and materials are clean and ready to use.
Organise Your Supplies According to Use
Here is the best thing you can do: position all the products and tools you use on a regular basis on the top shelves of your kitchen drawers/cabinets. Make sure they are easy to access and within easy reach so that you can use them every day. You can use pull-out drawers to serve the purpose. Place anything from cleaning agents and all-purpose cleaners to scrubbers, rags and towels. All the things you use frequently.
Try to keep the items you rarely use out of the way but still within reach by placing them in the lower racks. Which items go up and which will stay on lower shelves, it is all up to you really.
Label Your Products
If you have more cleaning supplies than your drawer can store and you tend to organise them in a kitchen closet, you can use this step. Sort out all the products by purpose and label them. For example, place all your cleaning rags, disposable cloths and paper towels in one section of your closet. Then add a label “wipe”. Store your brush set, dust pan and dust cleaners and solutions in another section and put “dust” on it. Keep doing this until your run out of supplies to store.
Store Your Cleaning Supplies Separately
Make sure you keep your cleaning agents away from food! It’s best if you store your cleaning supplies separately. That is, the other kitchen possessions (or medicines) should not be placed in the same container/drawer/cabinet as your cleaning kit. That includes your washing powder and detergents.
In that spirit, make sure you don’t keep dangerous products close to each other.
Store Your Cleaning Supplies Out of Reach of Children
Last but not least, don’t forget to store your cleaning supplies away from your children. It’s not recommended they have access to chemically-based cleaning solutions for obvious reasons. Considering this, you need to store your cleaning kit on a higher shelve of your kitchen closet or cabinetry.
Following these easy tips will help you keep your cleaning supplies safe and working properly. It will also make your kitchen more organised and spacious. Last but not least, you will find your stuff with ease. Much better than before? Try these methods and feel the differences. Keep these tips in mind when you store your cleaning kit and everything will be tip top.
