A few months ago, I had a miscarriage. I was devastated when the ER doctor gave me the news. And I sunk even lower when the actual miscarriage happened. It was a week or so later that I found out about Kayla Aimee’s upcoming book. After reading over the blog post announcement, I knew I had to read this book. I could tell Anchored would break my heart and mend it all at the same time… and I was not disappointed.
Anchored: Finding Hope in the Unexpected by Kayla Aimee will pull on your heartstrings. You will be crying your heart out on one paragraph and laughing so hard you might even begin to sound like a silent seal (it’s a meme you can Google it. Technically, it says “retarded seal” but I don’t like that term). Which to me is the mark of a brilliant writer!
While Anchored goes through Kayla’s journey of the joy of finding out she was pregnant to the terror of going into labor at 24 weeks and the painful journey of life in the NICU with a micro-preemie, all mothers will relate to this story. This memoir embraces all the fears, hesitations, and insecurities mothers go through while on the journey of motherhood. Kayla’s fierce, unyielding love of Scarlette ring out through the pages and remind mothers of how much they will sacrifice for their children.
Kayla not only shares the suffering and heartaches from the hospital, but what happens outside the hospital, in her marriage, and with her family and friends. All while questioning her faith, which she had believed and regarded as truth for so long. During times of tragedy it is only natural to have these moments and Kayla doesn’t hide them or conceal them. She embraces them. Yet while expressing her frustrations and why’s she reminds us that it is not our own strength and faith that carries us in difficult times but a gracious and merciful God who is already there waiting for us.
Have you read Anchored: Finding Hope in the Unexpected by Kayla Aimee? What book has helped you through a difficult time in your life?
Have a blessed day!
