My one tip for getting rid of smelly hands and cutting boards is lemon juice! Yup that old trick that you’ve probably heard of a million times really does work!
Oh smelly, smelly onions! How I hate the smell of onions! I also do not like raw onions but my husband loves them! I’m pretty sure he would eat them on just about everything if he could.
I do, however, enjoy cooking with them. Onions add such a distinctive flavor to many dishes and once they have been cooked they are no longer “spicy.” Plus they are packed with many health benefits, which is why I try to incorporate them into many of my recipes.
Chopping up an onion leaves your hands smelling like the onion. It seems that no matter how many times you wash and scrub your hands they will still smell like onions forever. This is one reason why I like to keep some lemon juice around.
Wash your hands with soap and water then dry as you normally would. Then pour a teaspoon or so of lemon juice on your hands, rub them together and pat dry. Violia! Onion smell gone!
Yes, your hands will smell like lemons for a few minutes but it will pass. Besides, lemons smell much, much better than onions! You can also rub lemon juice on your cutting board or counters to kill the onion smell. You can use fresh lemon juice or store bought lemon juice, either will work fine. I personally have a jar of store bought lemon juice I keep in the refrigerator specifically for cleaning purposes.
Lemon juice will also kill the smell of garlic on your hands or cutting board. Now that I cook more with fresh garlic, I have been doing this and it works wonderfully!
Enjoy those onions and your fresh, clean smelling hands!
Have a blessed day!
