Juicing packs a healthy punch, especially if you are only using one or two fruits and tons of veggies! I found it to be a great way to get in lots of healthy vitamins and nutrients. Plus it eased some pregnancy discomfort I was experiencing.
Why I began juicing
I have been juicing on and off for about a year now. I began juicing during my second pregnancy. Last Valentine’s Day James made us a delicious marinated steak dinner. A few hours after eating it we both experienced some digestive discomfort. We both felt like a rock had settled in our stomachs. The next day James was feeling better but my rock had grown to the size of a brick! And the following day it was a cinder block!
I was in such pain and discomfort! I had been considering juicing for general health benefits but after those last few days of misery I was willing to give anything a try.
I decided on the Breville Juice Fountain Plus (JE98XL model) and I used Joe the Juicer’s recipes.
Being pregnant I did not do the 7 day juicing cleanse. I did juice at least once a day. In the beginning I juiced at every meal. Towards the end of my pregnancy when I started getting sick again I dropped down to once or less a day.
One of my favorite benefits of juicing I found was that Cakey would drink most of the juices too!
I can’t get Cakey to eat very many greens (kale, spinach, etc) but she will drink most of the green juice I make. It is always rewarding when she drinks down 8 ounces of healthy vegetable-loaded green juice!
I love that by making her juice I know that it is not loaded with extra sugar and it contains vegetables along with the fruit. Many of our favorite Joe the Juicer juices contain only one or two fruits and three or four vegetables.
When I make my juices I often run the pulp through multiple times to ensure I have not only got all the juice but as much fiber as possible.
Breville Juice Fountain Plus Review
I really like my Breville Juice Fountain Plus. It works very well. The juicer is dishwasher safe. Although I would not recommend placing it in the dishwasher unless you will be running the dishwasher right away. I prefer to hand wash most of mine. The fine mesh strainer and the juice cover I usually wash by hand and then occasionally run through the dishwasher. The pulp collector, juice collector and reservoir I rinse very well and then run through the dishwasher.
The chute is 3 inches wide which allows you to juice an entire apple without slicing it.
If my fruit or vegetables are wider than 2.5 inches I usually cut them up first. I do not like taking chances that the food will get stuck. I have successfully juiced kale, sweet potatoes, celery, carrots along with an assortment of soft fruits and vegetables.
The variable speed on the juicer is a great function.
It took me a few times juicing before I memorized which speed was for which vegetable or fruit. Now that I only do a few different juices I have all the speeds memorized and do not have to look them up every time.
I think this model is great for the occasional juicer. As I have said I do not juice all day everyday and this juicer works perfectly!
Do you juice? What are your reasons for juicing?
Have a blessed day!
