As I have mentioned before we have a small 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment. Putting a toddler and a baby in one bedroom requires some creativity. Now I have to factor in not just Maddie’s stuff but Sammie’s stuff too. You are not just storing double of everything but everything is in all different sizes!
When Maddie was a baby, I stored crib sheets, diapers, wipes, changing pad covers, and blankets in baskets under her changing table. Once Maddie became mobile this was no longer a good solution. Maddie thinks she is “helping” me by pulling out the baskets and emptying them. By this time the bunk beds were up but we were not using them so I stored everything on them out of her reach.
Luckily, the girls’ bunk beds came with under bed storage. This bonus storage area is where I store the extra bedding and other things for the bunk beds and Maddie. However, the bedding I use for the crib needs to be closer and easier to get to because I will be using it a lot. I tried rearranging the girls’ dresser and fitting the crib bedding in there somehow but that didn’t work.
Then I remembered that I bought one of those large under bed plastic storage containers for my room. I bought it to put my non-maternity clothes in but never got around to actually putting them in the container or putting the container under the bed. I wondered if it would fit under the crib or would it stick out giving Maddie the opportunity to play with it. After digging it out of my room, I checked to see if it would fit under the crib and Yippee! it did! Maddie went to work helping me put the crib sheets, blankets, and crib pads into the container.
Luckily, Maddie has not been “helping” me by pulling everything out from under the changing table lately. This is good because I am able to store the extra wipes, some diapers, and the changing pad covers there… for now… at least. There is actually enough clearance (even when the crib is down as low as it goes) that I could stack two containers there if needed. I might have to consider this later but for now one is working out very well.
Have a blessed day!
