The church we were attending while I was pregnant with Doodles wanted to throw a little shower for her after her arrival. One thing I was really excited to get for Doodles’s baby shower, was additional cloth diapers. To make her shower easier, I only registered for things available at my local Target. My local Target carries two different brands of cloth diapers in their store, Charlie Banana and Gdiapers.  After comparing the two I decided the Charlie Banana cloth diapers were more of what I was looking for. Since I only received a couple of diapers at the shower I purchased additional ones to give me about half a dozen Charlie Banana diapers.

Charlie Banana cloth diapers are affordable

An individual Charlie Banana cloth diaper runs about $22.00 online at Target but Amazon have them starting at $16.80 with free Prime shipping. You can buy them in sets of 6 for about $97 and up on Amazon (Target’s price is a bit higher).

Charlie Banana cloth diapers are pocket style

Pocket style cloth diapers means that there is a pocket between the inner lining and the outer cover were you slide the insert inside. Once the insert is inside the pocket the diaper is ready to use. However, something I found very cool about Charlie Banana cloth diapers is that they have two different lengths for their reusable inserts. When you purchase the diaper you get both the small and the medium/large insert. The small insert was great for younger babies like Doodles (3 months to 9 months) and the medium/large was perfect for older and bigger babies like Cakey (18 months to 2.5 years).

Charlie Banana cloth diapers are easily obtained

I love that most Target locations carry a small selection of these diapers in their store. It makes it so much easier to slowly build up a cloth diaper stash by being able to pick up an individual diaper as you can work it in the budget. Of course a wider selection of colors is available online at both Target and Amazon. If you have a Amazon Prime account, you can get free shipping on the diapers so buying one at a time still an option online.

Charlie Banana cloth diapers are one size and adjustable

One size means that they grow with the baby and can be adjusted to give a more custom fit. Charlie Banana cloth diapers are adjustable on the waist and hips. They are not adjustable on the rise. Because they are not adjustable on the rise, I was unable to use these diapers for Doodles until she weighed over 10 pounds (approximately three months old). They came up way too high on her (like almost to her chest). Plus, because she was so skinny at the time, there were not enough snaps to overlap far enough to fit around her. We had plenty of other diapers she could wear and she quickly grew into these diapers.

The dual adjustments on the waist and hips give the Charlie Banana diapers a mostly customized fit to each of the girls. Once Doodles was big enough to wear these diapers, they fit both girls well around the waist, hips, and legs. We have rarely experienced leaks and the leaks we have experienced were not due to the fit of the diaper.

Charlie Banana cloth diapers are easy to use

I love the pocket style diapers! They are so easy to use. Simply put the insert into the pocket and you are good to go. James has no problem using them, he just has some difficulty placing the insert inside the pocket because his hands are so big!

Charlie Banana cloth diapers are simple to care for

As with most cloth diapers, you have to wash them a few times before using them to build up their absorbency. After you have activated the absorbency you just use, wash, and air dry as needed. We would wash them at night after the girls were in bed and leave them out to dry overnight. In the morning they were dry and ready to use.

We used Charlie Banana cloth diapers for over 2 years on two different sized babies at the same time. They held up very well.  The snaps all still work perfectly, the colors have not faded, and they are still uber soft on the inside.

Best uses for Charlie Banana cloth diapers and the 1 thing we didn’t like about them

My girls wore these diapers during the day with no problems. We often used them during nap time with good success. They worked fairly well at night. However, we do not regularly use cloth diapers at night because I like the fact that with an overnight disposable diaper the girls sleep better.

As I previously stated the one thing I did not like about the Charlie Banana cloth diapers was that they were not adjustable on the rise. The lack of a rise adjustment makes them difficult to use on newborns and infants under 10 pounds.

Overall, I loved the Charlie Banana cloth diapers. I would recommend them because they are affordable, easily obtained, pocket style, one size and adjustable, easy to use, and simple to care for. And they last!

Do you use cloth diapers?  Tell me about your experience if so!

Have a great day!
