This is a tutorial on how to Create a Customized Chore Checklist in Google Docs. Easily create a customized chore checklist for each household chore. In addition there are tips for optimizing your chore checklist.

When reevaluating the kids’ chore charts, it became apparent to me that we needed a chore checklist for some chores to make sure those chores were done completely. A chore checklist allows a person to follow along a step by step instruction of the chore. This also eliminates the need for some one to hover over a person while they complete the chore.

  1. Firstly, open Google Docs and create a new document.
  2. Choose a font, font size, and color. Then title your document.
    • Tip: Pick a fun font and a decent size around 24 or so.
  3. Label a subheading “Supplies”
  4. Click on Insert. Scroll to Table and highlight a table that is 2 columns by 4 rows and click it.
  5. Then adjust the first column widths. Use your cursor to drag the edges of the columns. Make the first column small like a check box.
  6. Next tab over to column two (stay on the first row) and add the first supply needed.
  7. Hit Tab again to go to the next row. Then hit Tab again to get to the second column.
  8. Fill in the remaining Rows of column two with the supplies needed for that chore. Then use Tab to create additional rows if needed.
  9. Next click on the outside bottom of your completed table.

  15. Fill in the remaining Rows of column two with the steps needed for that chore. Then use Tab to create additional rows if needed.
  16. Finally, if needed adjust font sizes, column widths, and row heights to fit the chart.

Additional Tips:
  • I add a section called “Date last cleaned” and include items that only get cleaned monthly or every few months.
  • Print the chore checklist out and put it into a sheet protector. Use a dry erase marker to track completed items.
  • Hang chore checklist in an easy to see spot so everyone knows where to find it. For example, we hang our bathroom cleaning checklist on the inside of the bathroom cabinets.
  • You can easily create multiple chore checklist for each chore after you finish the first one. Most importantly, each checklist will be customized for an chore. By clicking on File. Scroll to Make a Copy and click on it. Then edit the new chore checklist to suit your needs.
  • Label each file with the chore checklist name.
  • Keep each chore checklist in a labeled folder in your Google Drive. So that way you can easily change and update required chore items or steps.

Have a great day!
