This year during our homeschool preschool and pre-kindergarten, I thought I would try out some sensory bins. I make no guarantees that I will do one each week or that I will do them all year for two reasons. One I do not know if the girls will like them. Two I do not know if I will like doing them. 🙂
During our eleventh week, we worked on learning about the letter “K.” To find items for our Letter K Sensory Bin I raided the girls’ toys, my craft supplies, the pantry, and our school supplies.
Letter K Sensory Bin was a lot of fun and luckily not very messy. The girls did get some kidney beans on the floor but not much. 🙂
Letter K Sensory Bin
Supplies needed:
- Plastic bin with lid
- Dry kidney beans
- Plastic kangaroos
- Plastic koalas
- Kale chips
- Plastic letter K’s capital and lowercase
- Plastic kittens
- Kiwi fruit
- Fine motor tool set
Directions:
- Pour enough kidney beans to cover the bottom.
- Add in the plastic toys, letters and food.
- Give plastic fine motor tool set to your child to use while exploring the bin.
The girls loved exploring their Letter K Sensory Bin. They used their hands to dig around and find the toys, the fine motor tool set to scoop, grab, and pinch up each item. They also counted the different kinds of items, counted the total number of items in the bin, and tried stacking the items.
The girls and I tried kiwi for the first time while exploring this bin. They loved it so much they ate both of them and only allowed me a small piece. We also tried kale chips and none of us liked them.
The first time the girls started exploring their letter “K” sensory bin, I read K is for Kitten from our Tot School Letter K Books list. During the rest of the week, we listen to music genres or instruments that begin with the letter “K”.
