These Repurposed Glass Bottles to Flower Vases are super adorable and fairly easy to make. They are a fun way to dress up a plain glass bottle into a cute gift. Like most of my DIY’s I tried to use materials that we had at home i.e. glass bottles.
During Teacher Appreciation Week a few years ago we planned on giving the girls’ teacher flowers. But I was concerned with the flowers drying out during the day or the teacher having too many flowers to fit in any vase she had available. I thought about using a mason jar but the girls’ could not carry more than one jar at a time and they both had multiple teachers. After a bit of testing, I found that recycled kombucha bottles were perfect. One because the girls could carry one in each hand and two because they fit perfectly in cardboard drink carriers which made it even easier for the girls or I to carry.

Supplies:
- Glass bottle(s)
- Jute or twine in color of choice
- 2 inch Wooden letters
- Pretty cardstock
- Craft glue
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Pencil
- 2 Rubber bands
To Prep:
- Firstly, remove labels from the glass bottles.
- Then wash and dry the glass bottles thoroughly before beginning.
- Carefully use the scissors to cut away the plastic ring around the top of the bottle, if necessary.
- Then choose the letter to make and the cardstock to use. I used two coordinating patterns.
- Decide which pattern will be on the front (I’ll refer to this as cardstock A) and which will be the back (I’ll refer to this as cardstock B).
- Then place cardstock A face up on the work surface.
- Place the wooden letter face up on top of cardstock A.
- Then use the pencil to trace the wooden letter on the front side of cardstock A.
- Cut out the letter.
- Then place cardstock B face down on the work surface.
- Place the wooden letter face down on top of cardstock B.
- Then use the pencil to trace the wooden letter on the back side of cardstock B.
- Cut out the letter.
- Next with the paintbrush, apply a thin layer of glue to the front of the wooden letter and apply cardstock A to it.
- Then with the paintbrush, apply a thin layer of glue to the back of the wooden letter and apply cardstock B to it.
- Set the wooden letter off to the side to dry.
To make:
- Firstly use the paintbrush to apply a thin layer of glue just below the neck of the bottle. This is about a quarter of the way down the bottle. The layer of glue should go all the way around the bottle.
- Then take the jute and leave a 1 inch tail at the start. Secure the tail in place with a rubber band. Start wrapping the jute around the bottle.
- At the starting point make sure to wrap the jute over the tail. Continue wrapping the jute around the bottle until the halfway point to the rubber band.
- Remove the rubber band holding the tail in place.
- Apply another layer of glue with the paintbrush all the way around the bottle.
- Continue wrapping the jute around the bottle. While wrapping make sure to push each line of jute towards the previous one ensuring that there are no gaps between the lines of jute.
- Continue alternating between applying glue and wrapping the jute until the middle of the bottle.
- Then cut a 6 inch tail on the jute. Bring the tail up to the neck of the bottle and lightly secure in place with a rubber band.
- Flip the bottle upside down.
- With the paintbrush, apply a thin layer of glue about a quarter of the way down the bottle. Also make sure the layer of glue should goes all the way around the bottle.

- At the starting point make sure to wrap the jute over the tail. Continue wrapping the jute around the bottle until the halfway point to the rubber band.

- Continue alternating between applying glue and wrapping the jute until the middle of the bottle.
- Cut a 6 inch tail on the jute.
- Flip the bottle right side up.
- Then tie a knot between the two tail pieces.
- Slide the wooden letter onto one tail piece and tie a knot to secure it in place.
- Finally tie a bow with the jute over the letter and cut any excess jute off.

Repurposed Glass Bottles to Flower Vases make great gifts. I have given them to teachers, grandparents, as housewarming gifts, and hostess gifts.
I like that the vases were easy to make and that they came out pretty cute. Repurposed Glass Bottles to Flower Vases would also make great decor or centerpieces at birthday or holiday parties.
