During Tot school with the girls we focus on one letter each week. This week is the letter U. Here is our Tot School Letter U Books list.
I have been trying to read about 2 books a day or 10 books a week that fall in the theme for that week. Of course, our main focus is letters but sometimes I’ll throw in a book or two about numbers, shapes, or colors.
I am teaching both Cakey and Doodles. Although I’m teaching at Cakey’s level, I try to throw in a book or two for Doodles each week, but a good majority of the books are above both the girls. I love to challenge them through reading this way. The girls are enjoying and asking for the more challenging books to be read during “non-school” time!
Below is a list of books we read for Tot School Letter U Books:
Here are the books we read:
ABC USA by Martin Jarrie – American culture and history are displayed through each letter. The words representing each letter is defined and given a bit of history at the end of the book. Preschool – 3rd Grade
Underwater Counting: Even Numbers by Jerry Pallotta – A fun, ocean themed book showing a different way to count using only even numbers from 0 to 50. Kindergarten – 3rd grade
The Umbrella Queen by Shirin Bridges – Noot is finally allowed to paint umbrellas and she paints the same designs as her family until her imagination takes over. After getting in trouble she goes back to the traditional painting and paints her fun creations on scrap umbrellas. Noot still wonders who the King will choose as the umbrella queen. This is a great story. I learned something along with the girls. And sometimes it is okay to break tradition. Kindergarten – 3rd Grade
Great Day for Up by Dr. Seuss – An entertaining Dr. Seuss book that explores all the meanings of the word “up.” Preschool – Kindergarten
ABC Universe by American Museum of Natural History – An alphabet book with illustrations and facts about universe-related things and concepts for each letter of the alphabet, from astronaut to zenith. Preschool – Kindergarten
Goodnight Unicorn: A Magical Parody by Karla Oceanak – In this sweet tribute to Goodnight Moon, say goodnight to all different kinds of unicorns and other magical creatures. Preschool – 3rd Grade
Umbrella by Taro Yashima – This is a great book about growing up and learning independence. Preschool – Kindergarten
The Underwater Alphabet Book by Jerry Pallotta – From Angelfish to Zebra Pipefish, explore an alphabet of amazing tropical creatures through the coral reef. 1st – 3rd Grade
The Umbrella by Jan Brett – A little boy drops his umbrella in the rain forest to climb a tree in order to get a better look at the native animals. The animals climb into the umbrella one by one until it is so full they all tumble out. Preschool – 3rd Grade
The Unicorn Alphabet by Marianna Mayer – Inspired by medieval Unicorn Tapestries the book dives into the lore and legend of unicorns in the Middle Ages. Preschool – 3rd Grade
